Thinking of how to best write my post/status on wh Thinking of how to best write my post/status on what has been happening while also being conscious of performative activism.

As an Asian American, I think it is important to look introspectively at the internalized racism and anti-blackness that we learned from our family, friends, and our community.
As an Asian American who works in the most segregated school system in the United States and works in an office that supports ~75% Black and Brown students, I think about their history, stories, and voices and how it is often not heard and taught. It took days of protests, petitions and countless posts for Black people to be heard and acknowledged for their trauma and pain for just the recent events of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor, not to mention countless other murders that haven't been accounted for.

As an Asian American who is trying to support #BlackLivesMatter, I want to do better in lifting up Black voices and stories. Although the list of must reads that are floating around in social media is important read as we move toward an antiracist society, I also want to push myself to find and follow Black activists, educators, storytellers and hear their stories. Some books that I have appreciated include: Between the World and Me, The Other Side of Wes Moore, The Hate U Give, and All American Boys. These powerful but not isolated stories that shed light on the system that we live in.
As an Asian American who has the privilege to have financial stability, I am donating to NAACP Legal Defence and Educational Fund, a legal defense fund that is fighting for racial justice. My brother's company is matching 100% of employee donation to BLM organizations. Please let me know if you are interested in donating and having it matched.

My call to action for my non-Black friends here is to continue having these conversations with friends, family and loved ones and to call out racism when you see it. Continue to learn and educate yourself on the history of Black America (re: 1619 Project). But also to think about your other spheres of influence- online and at work and see where you can also effect change.
